The rules that govern using this site.
These terms apply when you use the Compare The Firm matching service. They are written in plain English. Read them before you complete the questionnaire, because submitting it means you accept them.
1. Who you are agreeing with
Compare The Firm is operated by AP Media Lab Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number TODO companies-house-number), registered office TODO registered-address. In these terms, "we", "us", "our", and "Compare The Firm" all refer to AP Media Lab Ltd.
"You" means the person using the site, in their personal capacity or on behalf of a UK business.
2. What the service is and what it is not
Compare The Firm is a marketing introduction service. We collect your profile through a short questionnaire, score it against firms on our panel, and pass it to up to three firms that fit. Each firm then contacts you directly to discuss your requirements and provide a quote.
We are not:
- An accountancy practice, law firm, or other regulated professional adviser.
- An agent or representative of any firm on the panel.
- A party to any contract you enter into with a firm.
- Liable for the work a firm does for you once you engage them.
Every firm on the panel is independently regulated by one or more of ICAEW, ACCA, SRA, CIMA, AAT, or CIOT, and each carries its own professional indemnity insurance and complaints procedure.
3. Eligibility
By using the site you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You are either acting in your own personal capacity or have authority to act on behalf of the business whose details you submit.
- The business is based in the United Kingdom or has UK tax or legal obligations.
- The information you give us is accurate and current.
4. Cost
The service is free to use. We charge firms on the panel a match fee or partnership retainer; you pay us nothing.
If you engage a firm we matched you to, you pay that firm directly under the terms they agree with you. Compare The Firm is not a party to that engagement.
5. How matching works
- We score every firm on the panel against your questionnaire answers using the published methodology summarised on the site.
- We send your profile to up to three firms only after you tick the consent box on the final step.
- If none of the three feel right, you can ask us to re-match for free.
- We do not guarantee that any specific firm will accept your case, quote a particular price, or be available within a particular window.
6. Your obligations
When using the site you must not:
- Submit false, misleading, or third-party personal data.
- Use the service to send unsolicited marketing to firms on the panel.
- Attempt to copy, scrape, or systematically extract data from the site.
- Interfere with the site's operation or security, including attempts to bypass authentication or access data you are not entitled to.
- Use the service in any way that breaches UK law or any duty owed to a third party.
We may suspend or terminate your access without notice if you breach these obligations.
7. Firms on the panel
Every firm passes a four-step vetting process: regulatory verification, two recent client references, a portfolio review by sector, and a published-rates declaration. We re-vet annually. If we discover a firm has misled us or breached its panel commitments, we may delist it without notice.
That said, Compare The Firm cannot warrant the quality, accuracy, or suitability of any specific firm's work. You are responsible for satisfying yourself before engaging any firm.
8. Intellectual property
The site, including its text, graphics, logos, code, and matching methodology, is owned by AP Media Lab Ltd or our licensors and is protected by UK and international copyright and trade mark law. You may view and print pages for personal or internal business use, but you may not copy, modify, distribute, or commercially exploit any part of the site without our prior written permission.
If you submit feedback, reviews, or testimonials to us, you grant AP Media Lab Ltd a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use them in connection with the service, including in marketing.
9. Reliance on information
The site contains general information about accountancy and legal services. It is not legal, tax, accounting, or financial advice and must not be relied on as such. You should always discuss your specific situation with a qualified professional before acting.
10. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
- Any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that:
- We will not be liable for any indirect, consequential, or special loss, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of revenue, loss of opportunity, loss of data, loss of anticipated savings, or damage to goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the site.
- Our total liability to you in any 12-month period, in contract, tort (including negligence), under statute, or otherwise, is capped at the greater of (a) the amounts you have paid Compare The Firm in that period (which is normally zero, because the service is free to use) and (b) £100.
- We are not liable for the acts, omissions, or work of any firm on the panel, or for any dispute, loss, or claim arising between you and a firm. Your remedies in respect of work a firm carries out for you are against that firm directly.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify AP Media Lab Ltd against any claim, loss, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:
- Information you submit that is false, inaccurate, or in breach of a third party's rights.
- Your breach of these terms.
- Your use of the service in breach of UK law.
12. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep the site available 24/7 but cannot guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may suspend, withdraw, or restrict the site without notice for maintenance, security, or commercial reasons.
We may change the service, the matching methodology, or these terms at any time. Material changes to these terms are posted on this page; continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Privacy
Use of the site is also governed by our privacy policy and cookie policy, which together with these terms set out the legal framework for your use of the service.
14. Termination
You may stop using the site at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you breach these terms, if we discontinue the service, or if we are required to do so by law.
Termination does not affect any rights and obligations that, by their nature, should survive it, including clauses 8 (Intellectual property), 10 (Limitation of liability), 11 (Indemnity), and 16 (Governing law).
15. Notices
Notices to AP Media Lab Ltd should be sent to Contact@comparethefirm.co.uk. We may send notices to you at the email address you provide through the questionnaire.
16. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes) are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute.
17. Miscellaneous
- If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
- No third party other than AP Media Lab Ltd has any right to enforce these terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
- Failing to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- You may not assign or transfer these terms without our written consent. We may assign them on a sale of the business.
